    David Bressler earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Cell Biotechnology from the University of Alberta. Following his studies, Dr. Bressler held a postdoctoral position that later transitioned into a Research Manger position, which included the instruction of two senior courses per year, in Chemical and Materials Engineering (University of Alberta). Dr. Bressler is appointed with the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences where he is a Professor.Read More »

    Jonathan Curtis – Associate Professor / Scientific Director – Lipid Products Research Alberta (LiPRA)

    Dr. Curtis is the Principal Investigator on the BCN projects "Production of Bio-polyols and Chemical Intermediates from Lipids" and "Development of New Polymeric Materials and Biocomposites from Lipids", which are both under the Chemical Conversions theme. He is also a collaborator on the BCN project "Fermentation of Prairie Grains", which falls under the Biological Conversions theme.     Amit Kumar – Assistant Professor

    Background:  Dr. Kumar received a Master of Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Energy technology, Thailand and a B.Sc. in Energy Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, India. Dr. Kumar earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta after completing his doctoral research in the area of utilization of biomass for power and liquid fuels. He has worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia.     David Stuart – Associate Professor/Associate Chair & Grad Program Coordinator

    Dr. Stuart completed his M.Sc. in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo. His thesis was on phosphorylation of the myosin light chains of human skeletal muscle and selected contractile properties of the knee extensor muscles. Dr. Stuart went on to conduct similar work as a research assistant at the University of Texas in Dallas before moving to Edmonton to pursue his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta.     Thava Vasanthan – Professor of Grain Science and Technology / Division Director, Food Science & Bioresource Technology

    Background:  Dr. Vasanthan earned a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, an M.Sc. in Food Technology from the University of Reading in the UK and a Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He then worked as a Professional Research Associate in the Department of Applied Microbiology and Food Science at the University of Saskatchewan before joining the University of Alberta in 1996 as an Assistant Professor.Read More »
